Jancis Robinson Vermouth Tasting of 88 world Vermouths | 11 Jan 2021 on our 4 Knightor Vermouths; 'At the very last minute, and only just in time for this article, four wax-sealed, slender, 37.5-cl Alsace flutes arrived on my desk. At the end of a long line of some pretty amazing vermouths, I lost my heart'. Tamlyn Curran

1 x Knightor Rosé Vermouth 37.5cl
Knightor Rosé vermouth is a fruity, easy drinking blend with aromas of citrus, violets and red fruits with a gentle herbal backdrop. The palate is as exciting as it is easy, with fruity flavours abounding followed by lingering sweet spice and bitterness. Aromatic and pleasantly bitter.
By contrast, the intense rich warming nose of the Dry vermouth is reminiscent of cologne, bergamot, bitter orange rind and liquorice. The palate is dry, rich, masculine and robust with an underlying spicy bitterness.
A careful balance of the two, Knightor White vermouth has an alluring, multi-layered nose that marries herbs with the delicate fruit aromas typical of our sparkling wines. The palate is equally appealing, sweet with a pleasant, gentle bitterness.
Knightor Rosso vermouth is a new variant to the family, a rich bittersweet English vermouth. Aromas leap out of the glass of bitter Orange zest, Aniseed, Cinchona and Gentian overlaid with gentle spice. The palate starts fruity, but finishes with a lingering bitter marmalade finish, with a hint of spiciness.
Jancis Robinson Vermouth Tasting of 88 world Vermouths | 11 Jan 2021: The balance (of vermouth) comes from the herbs and spices, and in particular the bitterness, texture, length and freshness that they impart. Acidity, it seems, is not a traditional structural component of vermouth. But German Riesling and English wines (any variety) have an intrinsic acidity, and this inculcates the vermouth with a vividness, a raciness and an electric aliveness that none of the other vermouths managed to achieve.
