Portscatho Bacchus 2018 (bottled unfiltered)
Portscatho Bacchus Barrel 3, 2018 [Bottled unfiltered]
With only 150 bottles made from a small, intense crop, this is an exceptional, limited addition to our range. Delivered to you alongside a note from our winemaker and in a hand written bottle.
Vinification: A small parcel was pressed, fermented in old french oak barrels. After fermentation this was left to mature in oak for a further 10 months. After this the wine was allowed to mature the wine the wine was bottled without filtration and without and fining. This results in a wine with a superb rounded mouthfeel but a slight sediment will be present in bottle.
Winemakers notes: A unique opportunity to try a barrel of our very special Portscatho Bacchus that was set aside, aged until we saw fit and bottled unfiltered to retain all of its original character. There was just a small but very intense crop of Bacchus from the 2018 vintage. This Bacchus was harvested by hand with careful bunch selection on the 2nd of October. The resulting wine should be stored upright a hour or so before service to allow the sediment to settle. Pale green in colour, the wine has aromas of gooseberry, elderflower and a hint of vanilla from the french oak. The palate is wonderfully well rounded, with subtle combination of both the typical Bacchus flavours and the delicate sweet vanilla flavours of old oak barrels, neither overpower the other.
