Madeleine Angevine 2017
Flavours: Gooseberry, apple, citrus
Tasting Notes:
The 2017 shows incredible ripeness and aromatic intensity. The aromas are a wonderful balance of fruit and floral with the typical Elderflower aroma still present but jostling amongst all the others. The palate is bone dry, fruity and well balanced with a long tangy gooseberry filled finish.
Winemakers Notes:
2017 created one of the most ripe and expressive Madeleines we have had to date. Both sugar levels and acidity were fine and balanced without being exceptional. However the flavours and aromatics present in the grapes showed more intensity and concentration than we had experienced before.
Hand picked on the 21st of September, the grapes were gently pressed, extracting only the finest juice. The juice was fermented cool between 10-16 degrees celsius to maintain aromas and freshness. Following the ferment the wine was aged for a further 6 months on its lees ['Sur lie'], to add body and softness, before being bottled on the 29th of March 2018.

Madeleine Angevine 2018
Flavours: Apple, Pear
Tasting Notes:
2018 was an exceptional vintage, resulting in very ripe Madeleine angevine. Typically a very floral variety, however given the warmth of 2018 it is more fruit forward. This Madeleine displays subtle pear, melon and peach aromas. The palate is dry, but very well balanced, showing delicate ripe apple and citrus flavours.
Winemakers Notes:
2018 was the 'perfect year' for growing grapes. The season was warm and dry resulting in excellent ripeness levels. Madeleine angevine is usually very light and floral in a typical year. Due to the warm weather of 2018 this Madeleine shows a little more weight and body, plus show less of the floral side we tend to associate with the variety and more fruit. It is interesting to compare the 2017 to the 2018 as they could not look more different!
The Madeleine was harvested on the 20th of September by hand. It was gently pressed and cool fermented, a very small proportion in 3rd fill french oak barrels. After fermentation the barrels were blended back with the tank Madeleine, it was aged on the lees for 10 months before being coarsely filtered and bottled.

Tasting Notes:
As always with our Madeleine our philosophy is to allow the varietal to express its self. 2019 was a good year for the Madeleine allowing for a slow and steady maturation of the grapes. The palate is dry, fruity and well balanced with a crisp tangy pear and citrus filled finish.
Winemakers Notes:
2019 was a good year for the Madeleine, the ripening conditions were neither too cool nor too hot resulting in a long slow ripening period. Both sugar levels and acidity were fine and balanced. The juice was fermented cool between 10-16 degrees celsius to maintain aromas and freshness. Following the ferment the wine was aged for a further 6 months on its lees ['Sur lie'], to add body and softness, before being bottled.
